AUTHOR: Drew Bryden DATE: 11/16/2003 12:34:26 PM ----- BODY: It has been a couple of Sundays since I had anything to offer here. The weather is slowly edging its way toward winter, and more of my workouts are moving indoors. It amazes me (after almost 35 years of winters) that the cold still seems so shocking when it arrives. We New Englanders are a hearty bunch, but we value our warm seasons and some of us still dread the gloomy months ahead. The first few weeks of cold are difficult when the days of shorts and T-shirts are so fresh in our memories. When the body has adjusted to the cold, it is easier to take.

Do I seem obsessed with the weather? Perhaps I am. It just seems that life is so routine… everything constant, yet the seasons have changed and winter is breathing down our necks. Shorter days are upon us and shorter are still to come.

Those brave men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan would give anything to be on home soil, cold weather or not. I try to keep those soldiers in my prayers, and remember how fortunate we are here. When focused on this perspective, the weather seems less harsh – the short days seem less dreary. We owe so much to those who have taken the war on terror abroad.

Thank the members of the U.S. military who are defending our freedom.

Happy Holidays!
